We gather together on a regular basis for worship, discipleship, and fellowship. We are followers of Jesus Christ who are actively working to fulfill the Great Commandments (Matthew 22:34-40) and the Great Assignment (Matthew 28:18-20).

Calvary Baptist Church was started in June of 1967. Pastor Delford Day, our founding pastor, had become burdened to start a fundamental Baptist church in Chatfield after driving through Chatfield a number of years prior and realizing that no Baptist church existed. Meetings were first held in the Interstate Power Company Building. There were eighteen charter members that first Sunday in June.

Soon after the church began meeting, our current property, on Winona Street, was purchased and the basement of our present building was built in 1969. The upper portion (above the basement) was finished in 1976. Additions were added to the existing building in 1992 and the latest one in 2009.

Over the years, a total of ten men have served as pastor or interim pastor at Calvary Baptist Church. In November of 2015, Mike Gittins was called to be the lead pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.

Ministry is the inward focus of the church, towards itself, as we seek to help growth take place within the church body. Ministry is best accomplished through personal, discipleship relationships as individuals actively invest in others within the church.

Even though the ministries listed below are geared towards regular church attenders, we welcome anyone to come and participate at anytime.

Our regularly-reoccurring ministries are our Discipleship Hour (Sunday School) and Calvary Kids Club.

  • Discipleship Hour is a year-round teaching ministry that takes place on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30 A.M. Kids (age 2 and up) through adults have opportunity to learn Biblical truth, in age appropriate classes.
  • Calvary Kids Club is a Wednesday Night Kids program that runs October through March from 6:00-7:15 P.M. During Calvary Kids Club, kids (age 3 through 6th grade) have the opportunity to learn Biblical truth, memorize key verses or passages from the Bible, and take part in a game time with others in their class.

In addition to our regularly-reoccurring ministries, we have a variety of one-time or infrequently-occurring ministries. These ministries will be listed under the events tab as they come up on our church calendar.

Mission is the outward focus of the church, towards others, as we seek to help all people learn more about Jesus and the life-changing truth about him contained in the gospel. Like ministry, mission is best accomplished through personal relationships as individuals actively invest in others within their community, the state, or the world.

Our mission is given to us by Jesus in John 17:18, Matthew 28:18-20, and Acts 1:8 and is designed to be carried out in the spirit of Matthew 22:34-40.

Our regularly-reoccurring mission outreach opportunities include Dino Depot, National Night Out, and an Easter Breakfast Event

  • Dino Depot is a Thursday morning free indoor play area for the community that runs from November through February. During these colder months, from 9-11 A.M., anyone from the community is welcome to come and utilize the church’s kids play area.
  • National Night Out takes place once-a-year on the first Tuesday in August. National Night Out is a free community event where we celebrate our Police, Fire, and Ambulance Services. Anyone from the community is invited to the church for supper and activities as we say thanks to our Emergency Services.
  • Prior to Easter Sunday, we have a free Easter Breakfast Event that involves breakfast and an easter egg hunt. Anyone from the community is invited to come and participate.

We would love to have you visit us for one of our services. If you have questions about visiting or would simply like more information or to talk to our pastor, please contact us.
